Muscle Ridge Tour
The Muscle Ridge archipelago is one of the most beautiful sea kayaking destinations in the world. Rugged, remote, seldom visited by tourists, and full of raw beauty, it is our favorite destination to guide! After a short one-hour paddle from Birch Point State Park, you will enter this fabulous group of islands, full of tidal lagoons, hidden passages, sandy beaches, and abundant seals. You will visit one or two different islands on foot where you can explore, swim, and enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch, before making the return crossing home.

FAQs
What is the distance of the trip?
Although it's ultimately group dependent, the trip begins and ends with a one mile open water crossing to the Muscle Ridge chain and then approximately 3-5 miles of paddling inside the island chain.
On multi-day trips where will we sleep?
We’ll sleep at designated campsites or open beaches that are part of the Maine Island Trail.
Can novice paddlers do this trip?
Technically they can though we suggest intermediate paddlers who have had some time paddling a sea kayak.
What should I pack?
Generally, you’ll want to pack paddling clothes for time on the water and then warm synthetic or wool clothes for camp.
Minimum Trip Participants
Maine Sport sets a minimum number of participants for each of our guided trips. If the minimum number of participants for a trip is not met, we will gladly move your reservation to the next available trip. If your heart is set on the original reservation, Maine Sport can run the trip as a private guided tour customizing the itinerary and the timing for a modest additional fee. Contact our Outdoors Program desk for more information at 207-236-8797. If no trip is available, Maine Sport will refund the transaction in the original form of payment. The minimum participants for this trip is 4 people.
